Tech recruits graduate through Sky Betting & Gaming’s £1.5M bootcamp

Yorkshire tech unicorn has today announced the graduation of 25 early-careers tech recruits from the 14-week ‘boot camp’ leg of its recently launched Software Academy.

The £1.5m investment in talent saw the aspiring developers, testers and engineers from universities including Leeds, Manchester, Lincoln, Huddersfield, Sheffield, York and Teeside, present four collaborative projects – two each for the company’s Gaming and Bet Tribes.

A new approach to a Monitoring Metrics Dashboard that examined the health of the Sky Vegas and Sky Casino branded applications was completed for the Gaming Tribe. For Bet Tribe, different implementations of Managing Feature Toggles for mobile and desktop bet applications were developed, all utilising Sky Betting & Gaming’s lean and agile methodologies. The graduates are were also assessed on the progress of their general business skills.

Harvey Whitford, Sky Betting & Gaming’s Head of Quality Assurance and Test and one of the Software Academy leads for the business, said: “Nurturing young talent is a great way to challenge teams with fresh ideas and inspiration. It’s been a significant investment for the business but given the standard of the final projects we’ve seen today, it’s one that is proving worthwhile.”

The participants will now progress through nine months of rotational placements within the company’s Bet, Gaming, Data and International Tribes. They are guaranteed a job with one of our tribes at the end of the programme.

Serena Wadsworth, who joined from Kings College London, said; “I’ve found the boot camp experience very positive and I really appreciate the opportunity to start my tech career in such a vibrant and supportive environment.”
